
Marnie says she was expecting them, and that despite what they've been through together, she declares she's going to go all-out. The player next meets Marnie as their first opponent in the semi-finals of the Wyndon Stadium Champion Cup. The player leaves Spikemuth while Marnie and Piers have their Gym Battle. Piers planned on offering the position to her, but Marnie refuses, telling him she can't be a Gym Leader if she becomes Champion. After Piers is defeated, Marnie arrives to congratulate both her brother and her rival on the match and tells Piers she knows he plans to retire his title after the Champion Cup. They also learn that the Gym Leader, Piers, is Marnie's older brother. During their Spikemuth Gym Mission, the player will learn that Team Yell consists of the Gym's Gym Trainers, and that they blocked the main entrance to cut down on Marnie's competition. After being defeated, Marnie gives them Piers's League Card and leads them inside, claiming she'll get her revenge in the Champion Cup. Later, on the outskirts of Spikemuth on Route 9, Marnie will show the player an alternate way into town but insist on a battle before they can enter. The player later meets Marnie and Morpeko at Ballonlea Stadium, where she learns her Morpeko has taken a liking to the player, and she gives them a copy of her League Card before officially acknowledging them as a rival. The next day, Marnie will give them a copy of Kabu's League Card and two Burn Heals before seeing them off. After the player returns to Motostoke, the player has their first battle with her in the same lobby. The player first meets Marnie in the lobby of Motostoke's Budew Drop Inn, where she scolds a group of Team Yell Grunts for causing trouble for the player, Hop, and other participants before introducing herself and apologizing on her behalf. She can first be seen at Motostoke Stadium while the player and Hop register for the Gym Challenge. She is constantly followed by her fan club, Team Yell. Her first Pokémon is her Morpeko, who can be seen following her around outside of battle. She is a stoic but well-mannered girl who wants to become Champion to support her hometown Spikemuth. As the Spikemuth Gym Leader, she gives the Dark Badge to Trainers who defeat her.

She eventually replaces her older brother Piers as the Gym Leader of her hometown Spikemuth. Marnie (Japanese: マリィ Mary) is one of the rival characters in Pokémon Sword and Shield, the others being Hop and Bede, and specializes in Dark-type Pokémon. Just then, Suicune finally came to Marnie, and the two of them were just in time to save Ash and Paige from falling into a deep canyon. When Suicune again did not appear, Marnie realized that it was her responsibility to rescue her little sister. At this, Marnie went to Suicune's home and begged for its help. Although Ash eventually found them, they could not find their way back to the others. Before Ash and his friends could stop her, Paige, her Drifloon, and Pikachu were carried away by the raging storm outside. Contrary to her mother's instructions, Paige tried to join the rest of her family when she was left alone with Ash and his friends. Although Marnie forbade her from telling anybody it, Paige later revealed to Ash that it was in fact a Suicune.Īfter Team Rocket tried and failed to steal Karsten's Ampharos, the power went out at the Pokémon Center due to problems at the Valley Windworks.

Throughout the course of Drifloon on the Wind!, Paige hinted at having a very special friend that lives in the forest. Paige often wishes she could tag along, but Marnie sternly tells her that she's too young and so leaves her behind. Marnie is particularly protective of her younger sister. The two girls have four Drifloon between them, which they use as their personal transport, often to deliver lunch to their father at the Valley Windworks. Both aspire to become qualified Nurse Joy, often helping their mother at home and in the Pokémon Center. Marnie is the older sibling, while Paige is the younger.

Marnie Frances Lynnette Joy (Japanese: サヤカ・フランソワ・ジョーイ Sayaka François Joy) and Paige Frances Lynnelle Joy (Japanese: マイ・フランソワ・ジョーイ Mai François Joy) are two sisters, the daughters of Karsten and a Nurse Joy, and characters of the day who appeared in Drifloon on the Wind!.
